Resetting Our Mindset

First, let me say Happy New Year! For most people a new year means a fresh start or a new beginning. You may even have a resolution like exercise more or eat healthier meals. If you’re in the wait for a baby, whether it be through traditional or international adoption or are trying naturally to conceive, may I suggest a mindset resolution?

Before you roll your eyes, hear me out. If you’re anything like me, unable to conceive and your options diminishing, you may be having a negative nelly season. I totally get that! Been there done that, MANY times! For each failed fertility treatment, I sunk deeper

into depression and quite frankly shear desperation and panic. You fall into the “why me trap”? Everyone around you is either pregnant or has their perfect little families of 2.5 kids and a dog.

What if you decided to change the way you think about your circumstance? This certainly changed for me once I became pregnant. I was of course thrilled that I was finally pregnant but I was pregnant with an adopted embryo. This child I was carrying would not mirror my husband or I genetically. I had to really change my mindset in how I viewed a child I would birth that would have zero DNA from me. Do you

struggle or did you struggle with that? I had to almost step outside myself to really analyze what was happening and start to look at my husband and I being chosen by God to carry a child that was not ours biologically. My husband and I were hand selected to be the forever parents of a little girl that may have been frozen forever or destroyed.

Adoption by far is no accident or coincidence. Think for a moment that YOU were selected. Sure a expectant mother and your family are matched, but the real

mastermind is God. So, if you’re still waiting to be matched with an expectant family or to be paired with the perfect adopted embryos, let me encourage you to change your mindset. Instead of thinking “this is taking forever” or “when will our baby be here”? I want you to see the bigger picture. I want you to see that the baby you match with is most certainly handpicked by our creator to be in your family.

I want to leave you with this little story. Just yesterday I was in one of the greatest stores – Hobby Lobby (Target is first) shopping for some baby room décor when I passed by a sign completely out of place. This sign was with the paint brushes and paints. The sign was delicately outlined in blush colored flowers and read “Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born I set you apart” Jeremiah 1:5. I’m certain God was reminding me of the miracle I was growing. He orchestrated the whole thing.

So be bold in your mindset, from “why me” to “you’ve selected me”. Think of the story you’ll have to tell, the experience you can share with others, and most importantly you’ve fulfilled the will of God.

Much Love,
